It's a relatively small statue being only 1.25 metres high and is often greeted with surprise by tourists when they see just how small it is.
The head of the Little Mermaid statue was modeled by the Primaballerina of the time, Ellen Price, in the early 1900's. The body however, is modeled from the sculptors wife as the Primaballerina was unwilling to pose nude.
One of the main attractions of Copenhagen is undoubtedly the little mermaid, a small figure in the harbour of Copenhagen. Thousands of tourists come by bus, car or by foot on a daily basis to see this little statue which has been vandalized several times in recent years by various vandals betweeb 1964 and 2007.
Sculpted by Edvard Eriksen and unveiled on August 23, 1913, the Little Mermaid statue, or Lille Havfru in Danish, sits along the waterfront in the Copenhagen harbour and is a major tourist attraction.
