The National Museum is situated in the New Town district of Prague and stands at the top of the famous Wenceslas Square. The building which houses the museum is the oldest and largest of all Czech Museums.

The style of the building is that of neo-renaissance and was designed by Josef Schultz. Surrounding the National Museum are other elaborately constructed buildings such as the Jugendstil style Prague Train Station, and the historic Grand Hotel Europa.
