A day which brings the ladies and gentlemen out in their traditional Bavarian atire, dirndls and lederhosen. In the small community of Putzbrunn, in southern Bavaria, Germany the Maibaum Festival is a big day of tradition and culture.
It's all about the May Tree, which for weeks prior to the main day, May 1st, is painted in blue and white Bavarian colours. On the day the 34 metre long tree is hoisted up by a team of 30 or more men which takes around 3 hours to accomplish.
